Jenny's Canyon

This is a very short hike in Snow Canyon into a mini slot canyon. Our goal this year is to do one hike a week and we missed doing one over the weekend because we were up north skiing. So to make up we picked a short one to do Wednesday after school and work. Spencer had just bought him a new pair of Vibram Five Fingers and was excited to see how they performed hiking. So far he is loving his new shoes. The camera did not like the cold temperatures and the battery died on us.  Hope you enjoy the pics!

Powder Mountain Jan 29 2011

From PM Pano

The last weekend in January I had business to attend to up in Ogden so while we were in the area Spencer and I hit the slopes at Powder Mountain. I use to only ski Powder because they were the cheapest. I love that resort. This was the first time up to Powder in four years, besides it was nice to get out of the soup! The inversion is one thing I DO NOT miss. As we drove up from St. George on Friday night the crud begin in Filmore!!

Our day at Powder consisted of doing what Spencer does best and that is screaming down the groomers as fast as he can. I can no longer keep up with him! I sincerely gave it my best effort but he just flies. The only time I could win was on a run he had not previously skied. He won’t push as hard if he isn’t familiar with the terrain. Watching him ski I can say that it was money well spent putting him on the ski team for three years. However…. I still don’t have a powder buddy in him. He has no use for the stuff. I tricked him into following me on to the west slopes of Cobabe Canyon to Proving Grounds and Fletchers Bowl. There was no fresh powder but I did find a few spots in the trees where there were no tracks. I took off down the hill thinking he was right behind me. I waited for a long time at the bottom before one very disgruntled son finally showed up. I ended up riding the lift by myself. I kinda sorta felt bad but not really. He has the skills and he knows how, he just needs the practice. We made up at the top of the Paradise lift and finished the day with me skiing off in the trees and him on the packed runs.

It was a beautiful sunny day filled with great mother son memories!

Here is Spencer's second run of the morning on Snowchaser.
